Luffy’s Transformation So Far in the One Piece Anime
Gear 2
Perhaps many One Piece anime fans agree that Luffy’s Gear 3 transformation is the best and coolest. This transformation was obtained by Luffy when he was in the Enies Lobby Arc which he used when fighting CP9.
Gear 2 will make Luffy’s heart pump blood faster, making all blood flow in the body faster. This results in all of Luffy’s sweat evaporating and making it seem like he is emitting hot steam.
The side effect resulting from Gear 2’s power is that Luffy can become tired quickly and also very hungry after using it. However, this transformation has become Luffy’s mainstay power which he has used for quite a long time.
Gear 3
This power is activated by Luffy by biting his bones directly through his thumb. Luffy’s hand will become very large which focuses power towards that one hand.
One blow from Gear 3’s power makes Luffy very strong and is able to make Rob Lucci lose consciousness. It could be said that Luffy is very skilled at mastering Gear 3, and several times he can even combine it with elemental powers such as fire and electricity.
Gear 4: Bounceman
After doing a timeskip for two years, it turns out that Luffy developed a new power, namely Gear 4, which has various variations. Bounceman is one of three variations of Gear 4’s powers and is one of the powers he often uses.
This power can be used by Luffy after he blows all his muscles and coats his arms with Haki. Since his entire hand is covered in Haki, all enemy attacks will not bounce off and cannot harm him.
As the name suggests, when Luffy uses the Gear 4 Bounceman power, he cannot stand straight or use his legs. He can just bounce around and defeat enemies with high-speed bounces.
Gear 4: Tankman
The second variation in Luffy’s Gear 4, namely Tankman, is very well known for its invulnerability. As the name suggests, Tankman is a force that focuses on Luffy’s defense in the One Piece anime.
As explained above, movement is not the main strength that Gear 4 has. Therefore, Gear 4 has other strengths that can withstand all enemy attacks. Charlotte Cracker couldn’t even penetrate the Tankman and instead flew away.
Gear 4 Tankman’s strength only appears once in the anime version when fighting Charlotte Cracker. When Luffy felt full, this power suddenly appeared and there was no further explanation regarding this power.
Gear 4: Snakeman
When using the Gear 4 Snakeman power, Luffy will become very fast and agile like a snake. This makes all attacks launched by Luffy unreadable by his enemies.
Unlike Bounceman, Luffy’s strength does not make his hands bigger or smaller. Because of this, Luffy gained the strength to move agilely and speed is his weapon.
Snakeman first appeared and was used by Luffy when he fought Katakuri. Even a Kenbunshoku Haki like Katakuri was overwhelmed when fighting Snakeman. Even though it’s not as strong as Bounceman, its speed can make it even stronger.
Gear 5
